Challenge the Odds: Team Challenge Update

A special thanks to the teams who participated in the Challenge the Odds: Team Challenge which ended September 1, 2010. Thank you for all of your hard work, and for your commitment to saving lives by raising funds for cancer research.

Challenge the Odds competition winners will be announced during the September 10 show. Don’t forget to Stand Up and tune in next Friday, September 10 at 8pm EST/7pm CST on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, Bio, Current TV, Discovery Health, E!, G4, HBO, HBO Latino, MLB Network, mun2, Showtime, Smithsonian Channel, The Style Network, TVOne and VH1.

The 2008 Team Community Challenge brought in more than $80,000 in the run-up to the inaugural Stand Up To Cancer broadcast, which was a key component of the effort that raised over $100 million for innovative cancer research. “Crush Kids’ Cancer – David Archuleta’s Angels”, the 2008 winning team that has raised more than $50,000, will be participating again in the 2010 challenge, led by Archuleta fan Stacie Goldberg, who is herself a cancer survivor.

Archuleta encouraged all of his fans to watch the 2008 Stand Up To Cancer broadcast, and Marge Lees, one of the members of the fundraising team, did. After seeing Katie Couric speak about the importance of colorectal cancer screening with Charles Barkley during the broadcast, Lees – who was 51 year old at the time – had a colonoscopy and was diagnosed with colon cancer. Lees and her Team Captain Goldberg had become friendly, and Goldberg – a cancer researcher who is an oncologist – was able to help Lees navigate some of the healthcare decisions she faced. Lees had surgery and treatment, and is now going on two years of being cancer-free. She credits Archuleta and Couric with saving her life. Representing her winning fundraising team, Lees appeared with Ethan Zohn on CBS’s Early Show this morning.

Stand Up To Cancer will return to primetime TV on September 10, 2010, at 8PM EST & PST / 7PM CT. The one-hour fundraising event will be simulcast live and commercial-free on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, Bio, Discovery Health, E!, G4, HBO, HBO Latino, MLB Network, mun2, Showtime, Smithsonian Channel, The Style Network, TV One, and VH1.

David Archuleta Performs “Something ‘Bout Love” Live For The First Time

Ahead of the release of The Other Side Of Down, David Archuleta has been trekking across the states and doing promo appearances. One such stop was at New York’s USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center this past Saturday, where Archie joined the Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, Allstar Weekend and Shontelle for Arthur Ashe Kids Day (see photos) and belted out his new single “Something ‘Bout Love” live for the first time. Watch below.

“It was really fun. It was cool meeting Allstar Weekend and hanging with them, and then seeing Shontelle and Demi again,” Archuleta wrote on his official site today. “I didn’t really get to say much to the Jonas Brothers, but I did catch a bit of their soundcheck.”

David’s album The Other Side Of Down is currently set for an October 5 release date.

We think Archie sounded pretty good for it being the first time he’s tackled “Something ‘Bout Love” live. How do you think he did?

David Archuleta and Jonas Brothers Arthur Ashe Kids Day Video – David Archuleta teamed up with the Jonas Brothers recently for a live performance.

The singers share the same type of fan base, and performing alongside one another seemed to be a natural progression.

They were both musical guests at the Arthur Ashe Kids Day.

David Archuleta was a runner up in the 2008 “American idol” season, but has seen his music career flourish since that time.

The Jonas Brothers performed a lot of their songs from the “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam” soundtrack.
The crowd seemed pleased with the performances that were given.
